Our Stock # LFA-1383
This is an antique single draw, marine telescope dating to the mid-Victorian period at the end of the Crimean War c.1855 - 71.
The scope retains it's original leather sleeve in good order as well as it's end lens cap. The objective lens measures 28mm (1.1") and the sun shade pulls out smoothly. The flared eye cup has a sliding dust cover in good working order.
The single draw tube draws nicely and is aged with a few superficial marks as one would expect in a piece of this age and given a life in service. Closed the scope measures 43.5cm (17") and fully drawn 56cm (22"). The optics are in good order offering a clear image.
Hand engraved on the draw tube for the renowned Portsea retailer the inscription reads 'Manufactured for E & W Seagrove, General Outfitters, 22 & 23 Hard, Portsea'. E & W Seagrove ran the Naval Outfitters between 1855 & 1871.
