This is a pair of antique figural fireplace chenets. A French, cast iron fire wood hearth rest, dating to the Great Exhibition period, circa 1850.

Fascinating Sphinx-inspired form, with a provincial French twist
Displaying a desirable aged patina and in good order
Cast iron presenting a good, consistent graphite finish
Superb figural mounts with fine detail, in the manner of Alsatian nuns
Rear log support in triangular form, for elevating fire wood over the hearth
