- Fascinating vase crafted in the manner of archaistic examples
- Displays a desirable aged patina and in pleasingly time-worn condition
- Quality bronze presents deep chestnut hues with a cool, tactile finish
- Inspired by ancient Chinese ritual bronzes from the Shang and Zhou dynasties
- The term Hu referring to a traditional baluster-form wine vessel used in ceremonial contexts
- Surfaces richly decorated with relief casting, featuring decorative motif and scrollwork
- Distinctive cockerel mask handles adorn either side of the gently flared neck
- The whole raised upon a tapering circular footer, decorated with relief patterns
This is a charming antique Hu vase, popular as decorative objects in grand interiors, particularly during the Aesthetic Movement. This late 19th century example reflects a Western fascination with Chinese antiquities in period. Delivered ready to display.
