As part of the Leveson-Gower family of nobility, George was related to Dukes and Earls across the nation. Educated in Westminster and at Christ Church, Oxford, the later Marquis of Stafford was the Member of Parliament for Newcastle-Under-Lyme from 1779 - 1784 and the county of Staffordshire from 1787 - 1799. He also held positions as an Ambassador to France during their revolutionary years and held various other posts until his passing.
