This is an antique, Victorian fireside log bin or coal purdonium dating to c.1860.
Raised on bun feet, the oak displays wonderful medullary rays and fine patina throughout. The octagonal carry handle shaped for comfort is complimented by a wonderful pierced brass hinge.
The front has been decorated in galleried relief around a central oak plate further dressed with brass plates and a rosette pull. Opening the flap reveals an internal store ideal for kindling, logs or coal.
To the rear of the box a useful shovel locates in a strap holder completing this attractive fire side store.
