This is an antique book slide from the latter part of the 19th Century, c.1880.
Made from the prestigious coromandel wood, this book slide is a fine example of gothic revival: It's dark lustrous patina is offset by the pierced brass plates that adorn the end plates.
The chamfered plinth provides a stable base from which the original hinges open the bookends which then slide out to the required length.
Decorative and useful, supplied waxed and polished ready for the home.
