This is a trio of antique Shibayama panels. A Japanese, lacquer decorative screen, dating to the Meiji period, circa 1900.
- Fascinating examples of late Victorian, Japanned decorative taste
- Displaying a desirable aged patina and in very good order
- Hardwood shows rich russet hues with inset lacquered panels
- Borders decorated with hand-painted flowerhead motif
- Each panel depicts birds visiting tree branches, realised in carved stone
- Feathers accentuated with eye-catching Mother of Pearl
- Decorated reverse scenes, with trees upon small hillocks, with decorative stone pieces
- Small inset maker's mark to the bottom corner, with characters upon a red 'stamp' ground
- Mounted with hanging wire to reverse for ease of display
