This is an antique pair of Chinese elm hall chairs c.1900.
In good proportion and in typical box form, this pair of Chinese chairs are raised on square section legs united by a box stretcher with the forward most rail lowered as a foot rest.
The stepped seat aprons are decorated with pierced carvings to the front beneath a solid panel seat displaying good colour and grain detail.
The back rests are of panel form, stepped at the crest with scrolled stylised foliate detail. The central panels of the splat are black lacquered in contrast to the deep russet tones of the frame and seat panel.
Solid joints and construction, delivered waxed, polished and ready for the home.
