Late Georgian Corner Elbow Chair, c.1790
Our Stock # LFA-1306
This is an antique, late Georgian, corner, elbow chair dating to c.1790.
The frame of this delightful chair is well made and solidly jointed in generous stocks of aged mahogany that displays great colour and an aged patina. The needlepoint, drop-in seat is traditionally upholstered in a cream tapestry with a central heraldic shield motif.
Raised on three well turned, tapered columns between which a pair of vase shaped splats reside, the bowed armrest shows good grain detail and sweeps round into 'tankard rest' arm terminals. To the rear, the seat back features a shaped cresting for added comfort.
A generously deep seat rail cossets the seat pad and is raised on three, turned rear legs with a cabriole leg and pad foot to the fore. The legs united by a well executed 'X' frame stretcher, turned with central boxed joint and flared bulb detail where it meets the legs.
A fine example with good proportion, delivered waxed, polished and ready for the home.
