Charles II Coffer

This is an antique Charles II coffer dating to c.1680.
A fine example vigorously and well carved in English oak this example features a two plank top, triple field panel front complimented by double panelled ends, surmounted by a carved frieze. The carving, typical of the period, displays geometric stylised scrolls and foliate detail.
The lid, with scribed edge detail, lifts on strap hinges offering generous storage within and a candle box to one end that supports the lid when opened. The original iron lock is present without a key. The back panels are plain with hand chamfering to the panels with joints pegged for strength.
Superb period charm and in good antique order, this piece is delivered waxed and polished ready for the home.
