This is an antique Yoruba chief's stool. A West African, Benin Kingdom hardwood ceremonial lamp or side table, dating to the late 19th century, circa 1900.
- Striking example of West African tribal craftsmanship
- Displays a desirable aged patina - minor natural split to top adding to the character
- Naive hand-carved hardwood presents dark russet hues
- Ovoid top with thick rolled edge siting above the whole
- Pair of supporting figures stand alongside a distinctive, smiling leopard
- Standing upon a hollowed circular base with gently chamfered edges
This is a delightful antique Yoruba stool. Wonderfully hand-carved and lending itself to being an unusual lamp or side table for the home. Delivered waxed, polished and ready to enjoy.
