This is an antique verger's desk box. An English, oak ecclesiastical bible case, dating to the William III period, circa 1700.
- Beautifully presented desk case with fine detail and figuring
- Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order
- Select oak stocks show fine grain interest and an abundance of medullary rays
- Rich caramel hues beam beneath a wax polish finish
- Canted lid opens upon a pair of dashing iron strap hinges, reveals a suite of three drawers
- Antique lock to fascia with spade clasp — untested, key absent
- The lid carved with the monogram 'MH', set within a geometric motif with foliate icon
- Blind fretwork carvings accentuate the front fascia with a striking scrolled leaf pattern
