Antique Stationery Box
Our Stock # LFA-1068
This is an impressive antique leather stationery case made by A. F̦rster in Vienna.
Made in the latter part of the 19th Century, this case dates to c.1899 out of one of the premiere tooling firms of the time, A. F̦rster, Wien; An Austrian firm commissioned by the best designers of the time to tool and manufacture everything from leather screens (such as the one in the Royal Pavilion, Brighton designed by Josef Hoffmann) to book binding important volumes of literature.
Tooled in gold, the patina of the butterscotch hide is delicious and is modestly decorated in foliate swags and scrolls.
The attention to detail is exquisite with a working lock complete with inset brass escutcheon that opens a drop front and lid to reveal the impressed silk lining. The interior is divided into a number of compartments for stationery or letters.
In wonderful antique condition with free worldwide delivery.
