This is an antique side table. A Scottish, oak console table with bobbin turned legs, dating to the Victorian period, circa 1870.
- Gothic revival taste with wonderful carved decoration
- Displays a desirable aged patina
- Select oak resplendent in dark hues and fine grain interest
- Good consistent colour throughout to the wax polish finish
- Elaborate foliate carving to the low up stand
- Raised counter with deep, tiered edge
- Wisps of medullary rays beam from the generously sized counter top
- Upper apron with appealing, naive chip decoration in keeping with the revival taste
- Front apron finished with a repetition of the hand-carved acanthus motif
- Leading edge of apron finished with fine arcading
- Set upon stout, bobbin turned front legs and raised on bun feet
- Rear, square section legs united by scrolled stretchers
This is a highly decorative antique side table, with superb carved detail and gothic overtones. Solid joints and construction, delivered waxed, polished and ready for the home.
