Antique Hall Cupboard, Victorian Oak c.1880
Our Stock # LFA-1490
This is an antique hall cupboard dating to the end of the 19th century c.1880.
Crafted in exceptionally weighty stock at 45mm (1.75") thick, this cupboard is of the highest quality and has a warmth in the lustre of the honey tones radiating from the choice cuts of English oak.
Raised on a plinth base, the stop ended, quadrant railed corner detail softens the transition from the angle planked side panels to the twin doors at the front. The doors decorated with ecclesiastical geometric carving with Pugin overtones and of fine quality.
The brass 'rope-twist' ring handle hangs on a quatrefoil back plate above a brass keyhole escutcheon with key absent. Opening the cupboard the space is currently divided in two with three removable shelves to the left and a hanging rail to the right.
Above, a generous frieze in good proportion rises to the top moulding modestly displaying stop ended chamfered decoration.
A superior example in fine order, solid joints and construction, delivered waxed, polished and ready for the home.
