This is an antique fireplace bellows. An English, oak and leather fire stoking tool, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1880. Wonderfully preserved, it combines practical fire-lighting function with superb decorative presence in the Gothic Revival taste.
- Crafted from oak with fine grain interest and rich caramel hues
- Brown, tanned leather squeezebox in intact, working order
- Gives a healthy puff of air with every squeeze to enliven embers
- Gothic Revival styling with a spade-shaped fascia
- Relief carved quarterfoil motif and foliate medallion to the front panel
- Brass blow hole tip displays golden tones with gentle weathering
- Replete with breather hole, neatly set into the reverse fascia
- Decorated throughout with charming brass stud accents
- Leather hanging loop and enclosing strap to the handle edge
