This is an antique desktop writing slope. An English, burr walnut and brass correspondence box, dating to the mid Victorian period, circa 1860.

Domed stationery compartment dressed with a brass twist latch escutcheon — key present

Two delightful glass ink wells sit neatly within a brass square mount
Striking indigo coloured velvet writing slope embossed with a superb pattern
Upper section of the slope opens, revealing a recessed pair of document slides
