This is a large antique Chinese lantern. A hexagonal, Oriental lamp crafted from cedar in the late 19th century, circa 1880.
- Cedar with superb grain interest and consistent colour throughout
- Large iron hanging hoop displays a desirable aged patina
- Stout ball finial above a pagoda-style roof
- Pierced carved decorative panels to five of the six sides
- One open panel for access to the space within
- Scrolled carvings dress the lower frieze
- External brass corner straps for sturdiness
- Raised on a hexagonal pedestal over bracket feet
