This is an antique chef's knife board. A Scottish, leather and pine blade sharpener and cleaner, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1890.

• A fascinating chef or butcher's knife board, used for cleaning and sharpening
• Displays a desirable aged patina, with a gently time-worn appearance
• Pine frame presents deep caramel hues and fine grain interest
• Dark tanned leather cushion bears original blade marks from use
  
  
• Domed top dressed with a cast iron plate, bearing the maker's name J & A McFarlane
• This particular model is the Albert Knife Board, named for Queen Victoria's husband
• In period, abrasive powder would be placed upon the leather cushion to remove tarnish
• Before the advent of stainless steel, such boards helped retain sharp edges and clean surfaces
• Hanging loop within the domed plate ideal for wall mounting or display
