This is an antique 18th Century French oak coffer.
The waxed five plank top displays wonderful grain figuring and colour above the triple field panelled sides featuring equally interesting detail to front and back: the symmetry of finish making it ideal for centre room positioning if required.
The generous proportions of the piece and the 15cm (6") top overhang make this coffer ideal as an alternative low sideboard or table. The top has been later hinged for ease of access to the voluminous storage beneath with linings in excellent order.
Robustly constructed, the coffer is raised on massive 13.5cm (5.5") wide stiles united by stretcher foot rails showing the patina of centuries of use. The size of stock continues in the muntins and all are joined with traditional pegged mortice and tenons.åÊ
