James Ryan, 116 Long Acre, London
Born in London circa 1807, James Ryan traded as a gold beater, framemaker and ornament maker from the early 1830s. This included a brief partnership with James Creswick starting in 1836 and dissolving soon after in 1839.
According to the 1851 census Ryan's business was employing as many as 41 apprentices and boys. Later, in 1861, Ryan is trading at 116 Long Acre with his sons, William and James Joseph, as a gold beater then ten years on as a framemaker.
Ryan is known to have regularly supplied Charles Roberson & Co.
He is thought to have died in 1877.
