E O Richter

E O Richter of Chemnitz in Germany was a manufacturer of drawing instruments in the latter decades of the 19th century. Initially trained as a clock maker, Richter patented his ‘flat system’ of instruments in 1892. When this patent expired in 1905, many other companies copied his ideas for their own tools. A G Thornton of Manchester was one example, their Minerva line of instruments from 1916 being close copies.

The early 20th century sets were often branded as Präcision. After the Second World War, Richter became a state-owned company - known in German as a VEB Kombinat. Instruments continued to be offered by Richter well into the 1980s.
