David Chambers – Artist
David was born in Derby in 1946 and felt a natural calling to the sea. Born into a long line of marine artists, his first connection with Earth’s oceans was serving in both the Royal Navy and the Royal Marines. Whilst on tours he would pass the time by sketching cartoons and humorous images for fellow servicemen.
Having seen so many of the world’s waters, his love of art informed his painter’s eye. With a captivating sense of motion and a visual style redolent of Turner, his works can’t help to catch the essence of many evocative scenes with wonderful tonality and a contemporary edge. Very much set within the wonderful age of sail, tall ships play alongside horse-drawn rescue launches and all are blessed with David’s widely collected style of marine art.
