This is an antique baronial settle. A Scottish, carved oak reception hall bench with storage, dating to the Victorian period, circa 1870.

• Superior estate piece, with wonderful carved motif and bold figural form
• Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order throughout
• Fine Scottish oak with deep caramel hues and appealing grain interest
• Arranged as a generous two seat bench with a tall back rest
  
  
• Profusely carved crest rail, with demi-lune fan motif and scrolled leaf brackets
• Field panel finish to the back rest with diamond decoration and chased pattern carvings
• Exceptional arms, realised as striking seated lions, with prominent head and bold toe detail
  
  
• Wide bench enclosed within the arms, providing comfortable reception seating at a height of 49cm
• Bench lid opens to a useful storage recess, ideal for walking boots, shoes and blankets
• Lower fascia repeats the theme of the crest rail to great effect
• Side profile dominated by the lion arms, with diamond motif to the base
• The whole ensemble standing upon a quartet of bracket feet
