This is a vintage oval keepsake box. A Russian, papier-mâché and lacquer lidded trinket case, dating to the Art Deco period, circa 1930.
- Fascinating clamshell form with iconic figural decor
- Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order
- Lacquered finish to the oval case, with deep black hues
- Interior finished in cinnabar red for striking contrast
- Lid decorated with an image of St. George fighting the dragon
- Superb colour palette accentuates the scene
- Annotated in Church Slavonic script to the top edge
- Translated, it reads The Miracle of Saint George and the Dragon
