This is a pair of antique decorative stem vases. A Japanese, bronze Meiji era baluster urn, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1880.
- Traditional baluster form with superb relief bird detail in the Meiji tradition
- Displaying a desirable aged patina gently time worn
- Quality bronze shows fine tonality with a deep chestnut coloration
- Ideal for posies with an opening diameter of 3.5cm deep within the flared rim
- Decorative relief birds sit prominently around the body
- Depicted sat upon fruiting branches amongst naive cloud motif
- Fascinating elephant handles to the neck — used as symbolism for wisdom in Japanese art
- Substantial in the hand at 1.896 and 1.840kg respectively (4.179 & 4.056 lb)
