This is an antique church refectory fire back. An English, cast iron fireplace reflector with ecclesiastical taste, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1890.

Wonderful relief with appealing allegorical theme
Displays a desirable aged patina and in good original order
Substantial cast iron with good, consistent graphite finish
Relief presents St George, shown here with wings to represent the Archangel Michael
In period, a symbol of virtue over heresy, sin and temptation
