Leaving Germany in the early 1920s, Theodore Anthony Froitzheim headed for America, landing in New York as an eighteen year old searching for a land of opportunity. Beginning at a small department store called Dales, he then moved to the luxury luggage department of Saks. Catching the eye of cosmetics tycoon Elizabeth Arden, Froitzheim developed custom cases for carrying beauty products. This line of income afforded a new business making luxury luggage of his own, and a new alter ego - T. Anthony.
From a less-than-favourable location in ‘Upper’ Madison Avenue, the young man took a risk, one that ultimately, would pay dividends. Favoured by some of the 20th century's most fabled names, T. Anthony’s luggage would be the luggage of choice for many of the jet set in the mid 20th century. Some of those who used this line of luxury luggage were Marilyn Monroe, Ronald Reagan and Sir Elton John. The company continues today, with a store in Manhattan, New York on Park Avenue.
